Details of the activity: The students of the Department were taken on a visit to the Sardar Sarovar Dam Site. The students were fascinated to see the largest dam of the state, and one of the largest dams in the country. This dam came up first and then came the Statue of Unity. This dam was the vision of Sardar Patel. When one visits Statue of Unity this spot is included in the free list. There is a free bus ride upto this spot. A local guide explains the features of this dam. This dam also generates electricity. During night time it is lit up and provides an excellent facade. The students also had a spectacular view of this dam from the viewing gallery of Statue of Unity. Later, they also explored the scenic beauty of the surrounding region, including the Kevadiya Colony, which is a newly developed township near the dam site. Later, the tour culminated in the divine vibrations of the Nilkanth Dham, Poicha, Narmada river banks.

Outcome of the activity/event: The students had an opportunity to observe and appreciate one of India’s engineering marvels and nearby imposing world’s tallest Statue of Unity, in the midst of forested Rajpipla Hills. The students came to appreciate how the dam site has evolved into the leading tourist destination of the state. The same was presented as a study tour report, along with maps, sketches and photographs.
