Place where the activity was conducted: Sabar Dairy, Himmatnagar and Indrasi Lake Polo Forest (Aravalli Hills), Harnav Dam, Meshvo Dam, Sarneshwar, Vireshwar
Details of the activity: Our first destination was the Sabarkantha District Co-operative Milk Producers’ Union Limited, popularly known as the Sabar Dairy, Himmatnagar. Polo Forest situated around 150 km from Ahmedabad and 40 km from Idar city on the border of Gujarat and Rajasthan. River Harnav is main lifeline of Polo forest.
The 400 square km area of dry mixed deciduous forest is most lush between August to December. The landscape appeared a bit open on winter day. Ancient temples like Jain derasar, Surya Mandir and Sarneshwar temple having rich heritage and architectural marvel are located inside forest. A small dam inside forest – Harnav dam on Harnav river is another attraction inside the forest. The students had a wonderful experience of trekking over the senile topography under cool winter conditions.
Outcome of the activity/event: The students had an opportunity to observe the geographically varied topography and natural environment in the north-eastern corner of Gujarat State. The same was presented as a study tour report, along with maps, sketches and photographs.
