Place where the activity was conducted: Idar and Polo Forest
Details of the activity: On way to the lush green topography of the Polo Forest, we reached the senile boulder topography of the Idar hills, with the historical Fort atop, popularly known as the Idariyo Gadh. It provided a wonderful trekking experience to the students. Polo Forest situated around 150 km from Ahmedabad and 40 km from Idar city on the border of Gujarat and Rajasthan. River Harnav is main lifeline of Polo forest. The 400 square km area of dry mixed deciduous forest is most lush between August to December. The landscape appeared a bit open on winter day. Ancient temples like Jain derasar, Surya Mandir and Sarneshwar temple having rich heritage and architectural marvel are located inside forest. A small dam inside forest – Harnav dam on Harnav river is another attraction inside the forest. The students had a wonderful experience of trekking over the ancient topography, relict hills that have withstood the factors of weathering over the eons.
Outcome of the activity/event: The students had an opportunity to observe the geographically varied topography and natural environment in the north-eastern corner of Gujarat State. Besides Geography, the students could also enrich their knowledge of History and Heritage of state. The same was presented as a study tour report, along with maps, sketches and photographs.
